2009 Atlanta Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship (Round 8 of 17) Part 1
This is part 1 of round 8 of the 2009 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, and round 2 of the 2009 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Lites East Championship from the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, GA.
Returning contenders like Supercross rookies Ryan Villopoto, Josh Grant, and Broc Hepler, Tim Ferry, 2007 champ James Stewart, Ivan Tedesco, Andrew Short, Supercross Sophomores Josh Hill and Mike Alessi, Michael Byrne, Davi Millsaps, 2008 Supercross runner-up Kevin Windham, and defending champ Chad Reed battle it out for the 2009 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship. This is Ryan Villopoto's rookie season in the Supercross class. Chad Reed runs the number 1 plate in a Supercross season for the first time since Jeremy McGrath in 2001. Team Suzuki's Michael Byrne fails to qualify for the main in only his 2nd race back from a wrist injury sustained before Anaheim 1.
Returning Supercross Lites East contenders like Christophe Pourcel, Brett Metcalfe, Lites Sophomores Austin Stroupe and Nico Izzi, Wil Hahn, Lites rookie Blake Wharton, 2003 champ Branden Jesseman, Martin Davalos and others battle it out for the 2009 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Lites East Championship. This season is Christophe Pourcel's first in the U.S. after a very painful spinal injury that almost cost him his career (and mobility) in 2008. Privateer Daniel Blair #125 earns a ride with the GEICO Honda team after Brett Metcalfe went down with an injury after finishing 2nd in the opener at Houston. Team Suzuki's Nico Izzi suffers a bad crash in practice (with a very sore lower back), but is able to finish a very respectable 2nd place.
Enjoy.
