69The Honda Odyssey has been a go-to choice for minivan buyers for the better part of this century, offering a hard-to-beat blend of versatility, comfort, reliability and features. It also hasn't been a complete whale to drive, as it's consistently possessed the driver-friendly controls reminiscent of Honda cars. The most recent version is the most desirable yet, and since it's been on the market long enough, you can easily find a used Odyssey that isn't too different from a new version.
For 2014, the Odyssey received a slight refresh, bringing with it updated electronics controls and additional standard or optional features such as Bluetooth audio and the unique optional HondaVAC vacuum cleaner. The 2015 is essentially the same.
As previously mentioned, most drivers are pleasantly surprised by the Odyssey's handling. Quick acceleration and controlled body motions make driving it more like a car than the lumbering family bus you might imagine. Wind noise might be an issue, though. Fuel economy, with its 3.5-liter V6 engine, stands at 19 miles per gallon in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.
Like other minivans, the Odyssey is most appealing for its versatility, made possible by fold-flat third-row seats, cavernous cargo space, power-sliding doors and the center-console Cool Box that can store drinks and snacks.
As for safety, the Odyssey has consistently scored excellent marks in government crash testing, and the 2014-2015 Odyssey was named a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The side and rear parking cameras also prevent parking mishaps.
Finally, the Odyssey ranks above-average in terms of reliability, but it's always smart to have your own mechanic check a potential used-vehicle purchase for any relevant recalls. We also recommend considering a certified pre-owned Honda Odyssey, since it will already be inspected for problems and include extra warranty coverage.
