2015 Chevrolet Trax | Real World Review | Autotrader
23On paper, the 2015 Chevrolet Trax doesn't look like much. It seems like another small SUV with a 4-cylinder engine. But once we climbed behind the wheel of Chevrolet's entrant to the subcompact-SUV segment, we were pleasantly surprised with the Trax.
While it shares the same platform as Chevrolet's subcompact Sonic, the Trax offers a lot more cargo space, a higher seating position and available all-wheel drive. Three trim levels are offered, with pricing ranging from $21,000 to $26,000.
Under the hood, the Trax boasts a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine that returns up to 26 miles per gallon in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. Outside, the Trax offers a handsome look -- especially with its available alloy wheels. On the road, the Trax touts quick steering and a generally quiet and comfortable ride.
Inside, the Trax is very versatile. The cabin is surprisingly spacious, and the dashboard and controls are laid out in a logical manner for the driver. While the interior is nice-looking, one thing we don't like about the Trax's cabin is the somewhat uncomfortable seats. We're also a little disappointed with some of the cabin materials -- especially compared to rivals such as the Mazda CX-3 and Nissan Juke. With that said, we like the Trax's excellent list of standard features, which includes a 7-inch touchscreen and a backup camera. We also like the Trax's excellent crash-test ratings, which include a Top Safety Pick score from the nonprofit Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
In all, we're impressed with the 2015 Chevrolet Trax -- especially when you consider its affordable pricing, its excellent fuel economy and its roomy interior.
