Efficient Power
The CX-9 is rated at 250 horsepower, though that number is reduced to 227 if you don't use premium fuel. But don't let those numbers dissuade you; the CX-9 has more than enough power for passing and merging. It has efficiency, too, returning 28 miles per gallon on the highway with front-wheel drive and 27 mpg hwy with all-wheel drive.
Premium Features
To kick off the standard features list, the CX-9 has a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a semi-easy-to-use 7-inch display screen. But moving up the ladder to the Grand Touring and Signature trim levels, you get luxurious touches like adaptive cruise control, parking sensors, LED accent lighting and even a powerful premium 12-speaker Bose sound system. Beautiful Design
Have you seen a newer Mazda on the road lately? Let us say that Mazda's designers have done an amazing job across the lineup, and the CX-9 is no exception. Automatic LEDs, beautiful 18-in alloy wheels, even a dual exhaust all come standard. But the overall design goes above and beyond those of its 3-row competitors.
Friendly Interior
Need more space for the little ones? You'll be glad to know the CX-9 is great for families. We found the second row is better than the third for the taller adults, but standard tri-zone climate control keeps all rows comfortable. Folding all rows flat gives you just over 71 cu ft., and that's enough for some serious storage. The Grand Touring trim level even has middle-row retractable sunshades, which are perfect for kids.
Fun Drive
It's no secret Mazdas are fun to drive. The spacious CX-9 is way more exciting than a minivan, that's for sure. However, it's still a 3-row SUV, however much Mazda manages to make it an engaging ride. But overall, it's fairly quiet and smooth, and you can really feel the 310 lb-ft of torque when on the go, especially in city driving.
