After a full redesign for the 2021 model year, the Kia Sorento gets a new powertrain choice for 2022: a plug-in hybrid. The Sorento PHEV has the same edgy styling and three-row cabin as any other Sorento but brings considerable all-electric driving range and improved fuel economy. It's offered exclusively in a six-passenger seating arrangement. The Sorento PHEV's 32-mile electric driving range is solid—but what if you want more range without ever burning a drop of gas? Kia's new EV6 all-electric crossover could be one option; it should be able to cover about 300 miles on a full charge. However, it's only a two-row vehicle, while the Sorento PHEV is a three-row. It appears that a Kia three-row electric SUV is on the way, but it's still a few years out. That vehicle, whatever it might be called, is part of an aggressive push toward electrification by the Korean manufacturer.
