25 — Final Fantasy VII Remake | Ch. 17: Deliverence From Chaos (pt.1)
0There's so much to unpack in the first ten minutes of this chapter, it's ridiculous. Obviously, if you're an FF7OG purist then you probably hate the direction that this is going in. I don't. I think it's excellent, and not just because one of my theories from a few episodes back was proven right.
I was developing a second theory here, too, though I didn't really go into it much. Aerith clearly has foreknowledge of both THE future — and her own — from her connection to the Lifestream. As Red says, the planet has its own will and the Whispers keep that flow of time on the intended course. When Aerith SPOILERs in the OG, she returns to the Lifestream so can potentially speak backwards to her previous self. It's a tenuous theory, sure, but plenty of people on the internet seem to agree that that may well be what's happening...
It's a shame we don't get Red XIII in the party here, but it's very late in the game for a new addition so I can see why they didn't include him as a playable character.

FF7 is, for me, the most over-hyped game in the franchise. I thought it was good, sure, but I still don’t get why so many people love it so damned much!
I’m hoping that the Final Fantasy VII Remake (FF7R) can give me any insight into that, though I’m expecting changes in the general storytelling anyways. I’m sure things have been changed, improved, expanded, and clarified for this new imagining of the narrative.
I’m still a bit annoyed at the marketing, however. This is NOT the full remake and I don’t think it should be marketed as such. It needs an “episode one” or “part one” attached to it. Missing that out is false advertising, in my opinion — at least for anyone who hasn’t been following the game’s development and KNOWS it’s only a small segment of the original experience.
