28 — Final Fantasy VII Remake | Ch. 18: Destiny's Crossroads
4It's the end of the road. Can you hear that? Those are the screams of thousands of rabid fans distraught by the realisation that their beloved original game is not what they've been enjoying for the last 30+ hours and that Square Enix has 'trashed' everything they held dear.
I'm sorry if I sound flippant, but I've watched a half dozen sweary screamy videos throwing abuse at SE since I finished the game and it always baffles me how people never realise that the original game that they love so much is STILL THERE TO PLAY WHENEVER THEY WANT. It's the same as people who moan about the RE3make.
There are some great moments in this final chapter of the game, one of which I registered but missed actually talking about — the fact that Cloud, Barret and Tifa fight off against future echoes of themselves in the form of the three Whispers: Rubrum, Croceo and Viridi who fight to hold the future intact. It's a great subversion of expectations and really opens up the possibilities.
Oh, and the music throughout is excellent!

FF7 is, for me, the most over-hyped game in the franchise. I thought it was good, sure, but I still don’t get why so many people love it so damned much!
I’m hoping that the Final Fantasy VII Remake (FF7R) can give me any insight into that, though I’m expecting changes in the general storytelling anyways. I’m sure things have been changed, improved, expanded, and clarified for this new imagining of the narrative.
I’m still a bit annoyed at the marketing, however. This is NOT the full remake and I don’t think it should be marketed as such. It needs an “episode one” or “part one” attached to it. Missing that out is false advertising, in my opinion — at least for anyone who hasn’t been following the game’s development and KNOWS it’s only a small segment of the original experience.
