In this video, we're going to discuss a new press release from Retro-bit discussing their new system, the Go Retro Portable!

The Nintendo Game Boy is one of the most beloved systems of all time. It has a tremendous library of games, even if they are in pea-green and black. One of the reasons why the Game Boy was so successful for so long was not only it's games, but one game in particular. Tetris was synonymous with the Game Boy, thanks to it being a pack-in game. Bringing the Game Boy form factor to the 21st century, Retro-bit has announced the Go Retro Portable, a handheld gaming machine with some serious inspiration provided by the Game Boy.

While not everything is known about it yet, there are some pretty interesting facts thus far. It includes 260 pre-loaded games, including some pretty heavy hitters. Mega Man, MIghty Final Fight, Bionic Commando, Gun Smoke and even Tetris are just some of the games to be included.

The system itself features a 2.8" color display, is powered by 4AAA batteries (but optional USB power is built-in too). Unlike the original Game Boy the Go Retro Portable features A & B turbo buttons, along with a reset button on the face of the system itself.

Another key distinguishing difference between the Game Boy and the Go Retro Portable is the lack of a cartridge port. According to Retro-Bit the reason for this is:

“We wanted to let players relive the experience without having to go through the hassle of searching for consoles, controllers, and cartridges as well as being confined to their living rooms. With the introduction of Retro-Bit’s new handheld, players can now take the experience of their home consoles anywhere!”

I'd still kinda like to have an included cartridge port, but if I can sideload games via the USB Port then I'd be good, for the most part. I'd still really like a cartridge slot to be able to play Game Boy and Game Boy Color cartridges, but I may be in the minority.

We've reached out to Retro-bit to see about getting a unit to review on the channel. Stay tuned, stay subscribed, as we'll be updating this story as more information is available.
