18 — Trials of Mana | Anticlimax & Review
ie. How to play it safe and not ruin the possibility of a sequel to your game.
From a writer's standpoint, this game falls short on a number of fronts. The plot is riddled with poor decision making on every single character's parts and it makes them come across as dumb and unlikeable. The dialogue is cliche and hokey, clearly a product of an early 90s writer and iffy translation, but it could have been updated into something passionate and energetic which would give the voice actors something to work with. And, to cap it all off, the villain of the piece isn't really defeated because they will "always return" blah blah which is a great way to ensure that your franchise keeps on going but removes all feeling of accomplishment for the player.
Oh, and the combat AI.... well... I talk about THAT in the review over the credits. Leave your thoughts down below. Am I being too harsh?

When the world was shrouded in darkness, the Goddess of Mana drew forth the Sword of Mana to smite the eight Benevodons, monsters of destruction. She sealed the horrors inside the eight Mana Stones, bringing the realm back from the brink. Weakened from rebuilding the world, the Goddess changed herself into a tree and fell into a deep sleep for many years. However, the forces of evil soon sought to free the Benevodons to gain control of the world. They started a terrible war to further their plot and destabilize the kingdoms. Peace was at an end.
