To all Doom fans reading this & watching this video, yesterday (December 10th), marked the 30th anniversary of the release of the 1st shareware episode of id Software's 1st-person shooter Doom. It's sometimes hard to believe that one of the greatest & most influential video games of all time was created by just a few people in Texas: John Romero, John Carmack, Adrian Carmack, Kevin Cloud, & Tom Hall, began development back in November of '92. Mid-way through development though, Hall was fired from id. Hall initially wanted Doom to have a structured storyline with characters, & even wrote a "Doom Bible", but most of the ideas were rejected by the team.

Late in the game's development, id hired former Microprose designer Sandy Petersen to design new levels for the game. Dave Taylor was also hired late in the game's development as a programmer. The shareware episode was uploaded to the FTP server of the University of Wisconsin–Madison at midnight on December 10, 1993. There were thousands of people wanting that shareware & they almost immediately took down that FTP server. The rest is history!

30 years later, we have seen nothing but incredible mods made over this engine! In this stream, we will be celebrating 30 years of Doom by playing some of the first, the most popular, some personal favorite Doom mods, even will take live requests, all while we get into detail of each one. One of the game's original creators, John Romero, has released an ALL NEW 9 level episode for the game, Sigil 2, for free in order to help celebrate 30 years (https://romero.com/sigil). Some of these mods are an easy set up, other have been converted to other projects entirely, & some have even found there way on modern platforms such as Steam! Links below to the mods in this video & more! I hope you all enjoy the video!
