I have always had a love for model rocketry. Receiving my first rocket as a gift from my parents in the 7th grade brought me into this hobby. Now that I have grown up and expanded my knowledge regarding electronics, 3D printing, and flight, it's time for me to create a rocket of my own.

The 3D printed rocket project is something I want to do before I graduate highschool, if all goes along to plan, I will have a completely 3D printed rocket capable of stabilized and controlled flight. In this episode, I will create the plastic body for the rocket itself. Making this body, I am using my 3D printer, Hatchbox PLA, my PC, and blender as the 3D Cad tool.

Before beginning construction on the rocket, I recognised that my printer does not have a large enough print volume to create such a large model. To combat this, I designed a modular connecting system for the pieces. Once all the 3D printed parts were assembled, I noticed that they were in desperate need of sanding. Luckily, the parts were easily sandable, and came out looking smooth.

Next, I needed a parachute launching mechanism, which was easy enough to do. The tubes are hollow, allowing me to fit everything in them. The nose cone pops off easily which will allow the engine itself to deploy the parachute at the best time.

In the next log, I will hopefully create a stabilization system that allows for a completely unshakable rocket. Until next time.
