It appears 3D spotting, reticle or nametag spotting, and now passive spotting are broken again in a Battlefield game. Yes I did not notice they had added passive or proximity spotting into Battlefield 2042, I'm guessing that was a recent change. Passive or proximity spotting is when an enemy player is within a certain range of you and a 3D icon appears above their player model. It requires no input or activation by you the player, the game does it automatically for you ( I'm not really a fan of those types of systems ). The live game examples show whatever is broken is an issue for all forms of spotting where the 3D icons are still appearing on the other side of objects and walls.

Anyways I couldn't find anything in the Season 5 update patch notes that were specific to or related to 3D spotting so it's probably a side effect of some other change because it wasn't this bad prior to the update.

Also before you guys go off the deep end please understand this has happened before in previous Battlefield games. BF1 had the passive/proximity spotting. BFV has the same issues with reticle or nametag spotting since they increased it's distance towards the end of the game's lifespan, I have quite a few examples of those in BF3 as well where an enemy player's icon or health bar is visible through walls and objects because my reticle overlapped with their player model on the other side. The main thing is to point out the issue and try to get it fixed.

In the end though if they are going to have such egregious 3D spotting they should at least let the player know when they are spotted and in what way they are spotted. Although I'd prefer 3D spotting or 3D icons for enemy players be removed entirely from the game DICE is unlikely to make that change. Probably because their reasoning for having it or adding it to the game is because the graphics for Battlefield games are apparently so good people can't distinguish players from the terrain and surrounding objects. At the very least DICE should make sure it's functioning properly otherwise you are leaving players to these unfortunate situations where the game is giving away their position and they don't even realize it.

Oh and if this is intended behavior I'd like to know DICE's reasoning for it :)
