[Conclusion]

The I7-10700KF didn't perform much better than a I7-4790K using the same graphics card. As for Fire Strike, the I7-4790K had a combined score of 19.17% less than the I7-10700KF. On Time Spy @ 1080p, the I7-4790K did 35.2% better in GPU performance, but it did 57% less in CPU performance.

In 3dmark Port Royal, the I7-10700KF was 1.7% faster in GPU performance compared to the I7-4790K. In Directx Raytracing the I7-10700KF was about 3.7% faster in FPS. In DLSS off, the I7-10700KF was 2% faster than the I7-4790K. In DLSS on, the I7-10700KF was 0.96% faster than the I7-4790K. Despite having a CPU which is 6 years older, the I7-4790K did pretty well against a newer processor, like the I7-10700K. This implies that 3d performance isn't tied to CPU frequencies, rather it is more dependent on the GPU.

Having a faster and newer CPU is necessary in doing CPU intensive tasks, like video editing, emulation, virtualization, compressing files, encoding data, multi-tasking, workstation applications, etc. In 3d applications, the GPU plays a much larger role in providing good performance.
