466: Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution PS2 \\ Jacky Quest mode 8th dan - Vipers Grand Prix tournament!
Had some meltdowns (OHMYGOSH I hadn't even noticed until after I wrote this that the first guy I fought, where I got all hot under my 5 layers of clothing, actually WAS a 7th dan Brad Burns named "meltdown"!! : oo) here in this HOT session of 8th dan Jacky Bryant in Quest mode of Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution; in particular I hit a big stretch in the middle where I couldn't seem to do clean inputs for low wake-up attacks (hold down, press kick) and ground attacks (down-forward kick), and it was driving me crazy and making me even worse in a fun feedback loop as I went insane:
0:00 - menus
4:16 - crying in Sega Arena Midtown
56:11 - Vipers Grand Prix tournament run 1
1:02:08 - Vipers run 2
1:17:55 - Vipers run 3
1:33:34 - Excellent hunting in Sega Arena Midtown
1:49:51 - wrap-up & what's next!
*Maybe* the input for a low wake-up attack is more strict in this version than in say 4 vanilla or 3tb or 5, either in terms of what directional input sloppiness is accepted, or what timing is accepted...but I didn't really have this problem this bad before even in this game, so, now that I've cooled off a bit, I'm thinking the most likely explanation is that maybe I was holding my arcade stick slightly crooked or something to start with and being a little too lazy with the controls; then I just got all confused and paranoid about it and went completely to heck.
Finally realized consciously that Jacky's forward+P hits mid (crouching characters), and found the crouching K sweep follow-up to his down-back+punch low backfist.
Getting 3rd place in the Vipers Grand Prix made "new items" "available at the Shop" (1'14"49), and "Old stages are now selectable [Toggle with START button during stage select](VS)" (oh man if that means the stages with their VF4 vanilla lighting I wish I could have those in Quest).
