It was pointed out to me that I was misinterpreting the wiki a bit, and in fact the only place we did get plot armour is at the end of the Long Walk, where Miranda survived the shot. Miranda gets plot armour throughout the mission, whether you go there early or not; in the 0% run, anyone else in her position would have survived too. In the infiltration, a wrong fire team leader assignment just gets the tech killed (more), and in the Long Walk a wrong biotic assignment gets a team member killed rather than the biotic.

I also noticed that there are no morality checks throughout the whole place here, quite disappointing also.

And to expand on my thoughts at the end: while the Suicide Mission does have a good dramatic presentation, we never know who of the squad will survive and getting to the end is tense... the stakes are extremely low compared to the stakes at the end of Mass Effect. Here we deal with a Reaper embryo, there we dealt with one of the most powerful fully-developed Reapers that was in the process of destroying the seat of the galactic community, together with a fleet of geth ships, and calling in thousands more of its kind. That's why it's disappointing. That said, despite all the things I dislike about this game, the story and dialogue and combat mechanics are still pretty solid so as to make it at the top ten favourite games of mine; and the DLC that we'll see later makes the game much better too.
