One Author, One Dagger, 48 Hours ... Mission Impossible? 48 Hour Sole Authorship Symmetrical Dagger Build Challenge!
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to craft a symmetrical dagger in just 48 hours. This could be done in our own or a friend's shop - Where is of no importance. Beg, borrow or steal whatever you need, as long as it's done by you (Sole Authorship) within the allocated time frame and within the following specifications:
Specifications:
- Symmetrical Dagger
- Dagger must have a cross-guard and pommel.
- Construction method: Narrow tang / through tang construction
- Blade Steel: Any carbon steel (Carbon stainless / plain carbon / damascus / san-mai / etc.)
- Manufacturing method: Forging / stock removal / CNC / casting / whatever. You can nibble at the blade with your teeth if it gets the job done ... no restrictions - BUT you have to do everything yourself!
- Sole authorship!
WIP Photos / Videos:
You will be required to post WIP photos on Facebook every step of the way. Keeping the rest of the world up to date is a MUST! You will be required to post photos of your progress every 2 hours – unless you fall asleep … Have a mate take the photos while you get your groove / grind / forge on.
Yes, every 2 hours you post a photo of what you have done up to that point. Ridiculous you say? Well I guess you will not be playing then … This is non-negotiable. It keeps the blood pressure up and lets the rest of the world see what you are up to. Extra points for video footage where you singe off you beard while heat treating … Be safe! Switch on your brain BEFORE you switch on your machines.
The Fine Print:
- Sole Authorship: Sole Authorship means that you are the only person that worked on the piece. No other human assisted or performed work on the piece. If there is engraving on the piece, it means that the engraving was done by you. It has nothing to do with the creators of the materials you use on the piece.
- Symmetrical: sym·met·ri·cal - səˈmetrik(ə)l/ - adjective - adjective: symmetrical - made up of exactly similar parts facing each other or around an axis; showing symmetry.
- Damascus / San-mai: Can only be used if it was made by you. Can be made before the challenge starts.
