[4K] Doom Nintendo Switch vs PS4 vs PC Graphics Analysis and Evaluation and Resolution Predictions
Welcome to Vertex Gaming. Today, we are going to analyze what apparent graphical compromises were made to Doom, which allowed it to run ipressively on Nintendo Switch.
If you are curous as to what geaphical settings were dialed back and how does the Swtich version compare to PC and PS4? stay with us to find out.
Last week, Nintendo announced that Doom will be coming to the Nintendo Switch. And yes, you've guessed it right. Not this Doom, that you might have
played in the nineties, or glad you've never played it, if you are much younger than me. Well, all aside, bringing doom to
Nintendo Switch is a very impressive accomplishment. How exactly do you take this exceptional technical showcase and squeeze it into a handheld? Obviously, you make compromises, major compromises... Today we are going to put the recent announcement trailer for Doom on Switch against the PS4 verion and the PC version and analyze what apparent graphical cutbacks were made to the game, which will allow it to run on the switch.
The handling of this impressive port was handed Panic Button to the studio responsible for brining Rocket Leage to Nintendo Switch. One of the most obvious downgrades
made to Doom is that it will be running at 30 frames per second on the handheld, in docked and undocked modes. But with all considered , this seems reasonable, considering
the mobile nature of the console.
The video that we see here is most likely Nintedo, running Doom at docked mode. Though the footage here is pretty pixelated for our analysis,
we presume that the game is running at about 960x540 resolution or below, with dynamic resolution scaling and temporal supersampling in play.
- Take a look at the differnece in the depth of field here. Between the three It looks like the Switch version took a pretty obvious downgrade, but it certainly looks and feels very
impressive.
- Secondly, lets take a look at the difference in the resolution, as we've suspected, the game runs at a very low resolution, presumably 960x540 or below
- Lets move on to the difference in texture resolution and filtering. It looks as if the the Switch version uses a custom low settin for the textures,
as a PC texture quiality equivalent of "low" still looks a bit sharper than what we see in the footage. This can be confiremed here in this shot, as
we look at the helmet and the wall behind it.
With the new Wolfenstain game coming to Switch in 2018, we cannot wait to see how will the mobile landscape for handheld games change in the near future. This makes us wonder what destiny
would have Sony's PSP console had during its lifecycle, if it had so many big name AAA titles under its belt.
We are very excited about this impressive port, cannot wait to play it and bring you guys more content like this video. If you liked this video, please leave us a like and subscribe to make sure you don't miss our future videos. Thank you for watching and we will see you in the next one.
