4K Nintendo 64?!? Analogue 3D N64 FPGA Clone System Announced!
118When it comes to clone video game systems, Analogue is know to have some of the best hardware available anywhere. When they announce a new project, people listen. Well, they have announced that 2024 will be the year that we get an HDMI-equipped Nintendo 64, and they are promising it will deliver 4K visuals. In a nutshell, what Analogue has done is to recreate the functionality of original Nintendo Hardware using programmable boards and chips. They have done this previously with the NES, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and even the TurboGrafx 16. NIntendo 64 has always been a problem for software developers in the emulation world, so to see them able to get it working on FPGA hardware is impressive.

We've had region free mods for the N64 for some time, but generally speaking that only coverts a Japanese system so you can play US titles on it and vice versa. There's never been a real good way to play EU PAL games on a US or Japanese NTSC system or the other way around, so the fact they are claiming this as a feature is exciting. It's also interesting that they are including both Bluetooth AND 2.4GHz connectivity for controllers.
Speaking of the controller, it looks like a knock off of the Retro Fighters Brawler 64, likely to be made by 8BitDo.
