I'm not normally an alarmist, but the decision made by a California judge has me very concerned about the state of the gaming industry mainly because it places Sony and to a lesser degree Nintendo in a bad situation. Tech giant Microsoft's acquisition of Activision-Blizzard looks like it's going through and that's a bad thing for gamers. Why is it bad for gamers though? Because there's no guarantee that any future Activision title will be multi-platform after 10 years. Microsoft might be open to having Activision-Blizzard titles on multi platforms for now just so the deal gets approved. But long term they're going to want to see a strong return on investment on the purchase, which means more sales for Xbox consoles. How do you get more sales? By having strong exclusives, something PlayStation and Nintendo generally does right. It should be noted the FTC does still have an anti-trust lawsuit against Microsoft.
