Nintendo took over the internet for a while with their teaser trailer, and with only 5 days left until the reveal of the Nintendo Switch, I thought I would talk about 5 things I hope to hear on the 13th.

#5 the price
Nintendo has made two major missteps with price on their last two consoles
$300 Wii U (8gb) You could get PS3 or Xbox 360’s pretty cheap at this point and the Wii U wasn’t much more powerful.
$250 3DS
They were able to pull the 3DS back from the brink and turn it into a winner
$170
Ambassador program as an apology
#4 How is this thing going to work with the Internet?
Nintendo has been fumbling the ball when it comes to online for a while
The original xbox was able to figure out online back in late 2002
Sony also has it figured out although they seem more prone to hacking.
Nintendo seems blissfully unaware that the Internet is a big part of gaming.
We want voice chat
Want to really blow everyone’s minds? Discord
We want to join our friends that are playing
Sit down load up - see that Jimmy is playing the latest craze Hyrule Warriors Online click join BAAM you’re in.
We don’t want friend codes
Safety
I’m an adult
Make parental controls instead
I know a lot of people will say it can’t have good online features because it's portable, but we have a lot of places we can get internet from.
WiFi
Phones
I’m willing to be a lot of Switches that sell, will never leave their docs.
#3 Virtual Console
Two options here
Scrap Virtual console and start fresh with a subscription service that gives us access to the entire back catalogue of Nintendo games and 3rd party games from the NES SNES and N64 (perhaps even gamecube)
Would make way more money this way.
Massive selling point to the console.
Give us all the games we’ve already bought on the Wii, Wii U, DS, 3DS for free.
Nintendo has the data, they know what we own, just let us have it.
#2 is a tie between Region Locking and launch games
Why does region locking exist?
Rating systems are different in different regions.
Losing a sale to different regions
International licensing
Nintendo is the last hold out
Launch games
Are we getting Mario and Zelda at launch
These two franchises could spell success or doom for the system.
If they launch with the system. It will fly off the shelves. And third parties will be far more inclined to support it with a wide player base to sell to.
If the Switch has a weak launch lineup less people will buy it, and in turn fewer publishers will find it to be an attractive platform.
#1 Will they make enough
If Amiibo and NES Classic have taught us anything, it’s that Nintendo has trouble launching products.
I want to pre-order
I want to buy it online
I do NOT want to stand in line outside some brick and mortar shop hoping i get one only to leave disappointed
Many people think that Nintendo does this on purpose
Part of me agrees with this
Scarcity creates demand
If you’re thinking about getting one and you know they are hard to get you’re more likely to buy it (just to be safe)
Gets them publicity
Why I don’t think that’s true
I’m sure Nintendo would have prefered to sell millions of NES classics instead of less than 200,000
I think it's more conservatism, they don’t want their products to sit on the shelves unsold.
They always tend to underestimate demand
It doesn’t work in their favor
