With today being Halloween and considering how horrifically f*cked up some of the things in the Fallout universe are, it seemed appropriate to take a look at a few Fallout theories that are a bit spooky. Here are 5 Spooky Fallout Theories.

5 Spookiest Fallout Theories (in text form)

Number 5. Throughout Fallout 4, you’ll encounter mannequins. Sometimes in stores, other times they’ll just be out in the wasteland, in places where they really have no business being. There’s a theory that not all of these are simple mannequins, rather, they are Institute synths designed to look like mannequins, and are equipped with cameras in order to keep tabs on the Sole Survivor. Gen-2 Synths already look enough like mannequins from a distance, and you can even find a synth in the Warren Theatre, hiding amongst the mannequins.

Number 4. The radio stations found in Fallout are a big part of giving the games their 1950s vibe. But the radio in Fallout 3, specifically Galaxy News Radio can occasionally be interrupted by something that most people probably wouldn’t think twice about. They are numbers and morse code and, when translated, read “nine-four-five, four-two-zero, two-zero-one-zero. Accident in the gulf, several dead. Oil spill apparently averted”.

That might seem like nothing to some people. But, the numbers and text do loosely correspond to a similar, real-world event. “Accident in the gulf, several dead. Oil spill apparently averted” refers to the Deepwater Horizon explosion that occurred in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20th, 2010. “four two zero” is April 20th. “two zero one zero” is 2010. “nine four five” is only 9:56pm. Could Fallout 3 have predicted the Deepwater Horizon explosion? Probably not, but what if it did?

Number 3. A few vaults appear to be references to passages and/or Psalms in the Bible. Here are a few examples:

Vault 92 contained musicians and attempted to turn them into super-soldiers via subliminal messages in the music playing throughout the vault. Part of Pslams 92 reads: “It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High, proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp.”

Vault 112 contains Tranquility Lane, a place, in theory, where vault dwellers would live perfect lives until Vault Tec came calling for the ending of the experiment. Part of Psalms 112 reads: “They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord. Their hearts are secure, they will have no fear”.

Number 2. This is probably one of the most popular theories in Fallout 4, and several people have gone more in-depth than I will, so i’ll keep it rather brief. Fallout 4’s Deacon is the Lone Wanderer in Fallout 3. To start with, Deacon isn’t really his name, it’s a code name given by the RailRoad. The word Deacon itself can mean 'To read a line of psalm or hymn before singing it' or 'To doctor or Adulterate’. The Lone Wanderer’s father wanted to purify, or deacon, the water in the Capital Wasteland. His code name being Deacon could be a reference or homage to his father. And what do we know about the Lone Wanderer from Fallout 3 art?

Number 1. Fallout and The Elder Scrolls are in the same universe. You might not believe me, but there are some things that could make this be true. Onboard the Prydwin in Fallout 4, in a research station near Senior Scribe Neriah, you can find some plants on the table. These are called “Experimental Plants”. Upon examining the plant, you can find out that it actually heals you. Looks awfully similar to Nirnroot, found in The Elder Scrolls, doesn’t it? But wait, there’s more! Terminal entries for the plant are labeled in the NRT category, which could be a short version of Nirnroot.

*Theories in video not guaranteed to be spooky.
