5 Top Tips to Speed up Chrome for Android
Is your browsing experience a little slow on Google Chrome for Android? In this video, I'm going to talk you through some tips on how to speed up Chrome for Android.
Tip number 1 - Lite Mode - Chrome for Android has a nifty little feature tucked away in the settings called Lite Mode. It uses less data which in turn should speed up your overall browsing experience. Basically when you turn this option on it will send data to Google’s servers to be compressed and optimised for the smartphone experience.
Tip Number 2 - Killing the Cache - Believe it or not having a cache is actually a good thing. It loads browsing data and saves it in your local storage which means when you go to load up a webpage, it will be much faster because the browser simply needs to pull that stored data as opposed to downloading it again and again. So why am I recommending this tip? Well, the issue is when you start to build up too much of that cached data the files can get fragmented and corrupted, which can actually cause your browser to slow down. It's important to clear your browser cache from time to time just to keep things a little fresh but you will notice when you first kill the cache it may initially create a longer loading time but things should start to settle and look better.
Tip Number 3 - Preloading Pages - Again this is another hidden and tucked away feature. Google is pretty darn good at predicting what you’re going to do. All those algorithms can help make Chrome faster. Chrome can actually preload websites before you actually access them. Pretty cool right? This means a site will often be pre-loaded before you even decide to go into it.
Tip Number 4 - Chrome Shortcuts - This doesn't necessarily speed up your Chrome browsing but it does make your browsing experience a bit faster and more streamlined. If you visit a number of different websites on a daily or weekly basis it's a lot easier to make them into shortcuts for your home screen. It means that you no longer have to load up Chrome and then type in your webpage every time you want to visit it.
Tip Number 5 - We all like to get a little tab happy and forget that they are still sitting there slowing down our browsing experience, one tab at a time. Make sure to close all the tabs you don’t need and clean things up so that the browser can operate lightly.
