After being framed for a crime he didn't commit, Amamiya Ren is sent to live in the big city of Tokyo for the next year, under the watchful eye of guardian Sakura Sojiro. Living in the attic of an out-of-the-way café, Ren must keep his head down and survive the next year, under threat of arrest due to his criminal record.
But on his first day of school, Ren becomes enveloped in a world beyond his wildest dreams, and beyond his fiercest nightmares.
Okumura's death is now being blamed on the Phantom Thieves, whose Change of Heart should have gone according to plan. It becomes clear that they've been set up by the true culprit - the Metaverse User with the Black Mask, from the rise popularity to the picking of Okumura as a target. Forced to back peddle, the Thieves must find a means to clear their name.
