Clippers
I mean there's not much explaining to do here, the CLippers went from being an 8th seed to title contenders overnight. The surprising power move by Kawhi Leonard and uncle Dennis SHOCKED the NBA. Yes the Clippers gave up two solid players in Shai Gilgeous Alexander and Danilo Gallinari, but they acquired MVP Candidate Paul George and arguably the second best two way forward right behind Kawhi Leonard. While the Lakers' Big Two of LeBron James and Anthony Davis beat out the Clippers' big two, the Clippers' supporting cast is one of the best in the NBA. A defense that features Leonard, George and Patrick Beverley may not allow a basket all season. Let this sink in your mind for a second. You're a guard on the other team and Pat Beverlys guarding you, you get a switch off of him for Kawhi, and then you switch again and see Paul George. This defence is the perfect counter for teams that only have great guard play and rely on perimeter shooting. You also have a young star in Zubac and sixth man of the year candidate Montrezl Harrell in the paint who won't give up easy baskets. Other players who contributed to the Clippers' playoff run include 6th man of the year Lou Williams and a young sharpshooter in Landry Shamet.
East:
76ers
Yes, the loss of Jimmy Butler does provide a lot of uncertainty for 6ers fans, but the 76ers got a WHOLE LOT better. First of all, the move to get Al Horford might be the BIGGEST move in free agency. They add one of the best defensive centers in the league and take him away from their eastern conference rivals in the Celtics, that in itself helps Embiid and it takes away a major piece from an arch rival. He also provides a lot of leadership qualities in the locker room and can definitely help Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons grow. The Sixers did lose Jimmy Butler, but they got an extremely valuable player in return in Josh Richardson, who can shoot the ball and create his shot. He's also a good defensive piece and he has a very afforable contract. They then resign Tobias Harris and extend Ben Simmons' contract. Hopefully Ben Simmons can take a step or two in the right direction and develop at the very least, a mid range jumper. The Sixers have built a solid defnsive team, which could very well be the best defensive team in the league. Their shortest starter is Josh Richardson at 6'6, and the rest of their starters are 6'9 and up, which means they have a lot of length. Yes, Tobias Harris, Josh Richardson, and Al Horford can shoot
Nets
Now, the Nets won't be a much improved team from last year. Yes, they'll still be a playoff team with the additions of Kyrie Irving and DeAndre Jordan, but they won't make much noise in the playoffs with Kevin Durant being inactive. However the Nets obviously still make this list because of the addition of their new big three. Now, there are many questions filled with this team, such as the shot distribution between the two stars and how sensitive they are with the media, especially in Brooklyn. But with the talent of the two, the Nets will no doubt be contenders for many years to come. T However this time, Instead of a solo star leading the show in D'Angelo Russell, they add NBA Champions in Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.
Celtics
The loss of Al Horford will definitely affect the Celtics in a major way, especially losing him to the sixers. But signing of Kemba Walker is perfect for the Celtics. Kemba has been looking for an opportunity to play on the games biggest stage ever since his college days, and he finally gets his chance after 8 seasons in NBA. Overall, is he a better player than Kyrie Irving? Of course not. Walkers personality and play style is a perfect fit for a Brad Stevens system. His willingness to share the ball and his ego-less veteran stature could provide openings for teammates such as Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. If Gordon Hayward can return to anywhere near a 10-15 point per game guy consistenly, this Celtics team could thrive and be much better than the more talented, yet more dysfunctional version we saw this past season. The Celtics also do replace Al Horford with Enes Kanter, who played really well with the Trail Blazers and is also a team first guy.
