Skar King is bigger and stronger than the other apes in his army, he is in fact the biggest. This is clearly evident as even though, the great apes are pretty huge, they are still short compared to Kong.
Skar King is evidently older and more intelligent than any other ape including Kong, as is clearly visible from his aged face, mangy skin with bald patches and a basically receded hairline.
Then there are the other minions who follow him or seek to climb up the social ladder
Lastly, as we can see there is no other Alpha Great Ape that is able to challenge him. Maybe there were ones in the past and they have been defeated either in a duel, or consumed by Shimo or killed by a handicap match against all of his henchmen.
But Most importantly he has Shimo, who is presumably controlled by the crystal tip at the end of the bone whip.
