7554 is a Vietnam War game made in Vietnam. Let that sink in for a moment. Instead of fighting American troops in the 60s and 70s however, you’re instead playing several Vietnamese soldiers during what’s known as the First Indochina War, fought against imperial French forces.

This is a first-person shooter heavily modeled after Call of Duty, and when I say that, I mean I think it might actually use the same engine. 7554 plays like a bad version of Call of Duty, and the level of inexperience from the developers shows. But there’s promise here, and the level of historical authenticity is definitely there. You can tell this is a subject the developers care deeply about.

Whether or not the Vietnamese government let the developers tell their story their own way, that’s another issue.
