So the attempt I missed the first coin I beat this... I almost wanted to upload this like you see in the beginning but my ego and perfectionism kicked in big time. So I beat “A Bizarre Phantasm” not only once for this video but twice! Enjoy! My consistency was insane afterwards though and it only took 20 something minutes to beat again.
I think this is TeamN2’s best level to date but I like all their levels. They are all classics in my opinion and they have such a unique style and atmosphere which makes them very memorable. There’s also something special about this team because they only created and ended up finishing 3 levels to the servers for people to play. The levels are very different and have nothing to do with each other but I almost like to consider them as a trilogy. TeamN2 trilogy.
Anyway this level has several choke points and the balancing isn’t the best. The gameplay is still fun for the most part and there’s a way around all the “unfair” stuff. The level picks up on difficulty during the second half but it is possible to fail before that. 10%-13% wave is the first tricky part because the portals are invisible and the gaps get kind of tight towards the end. 30%-31% dual and transition following it were a pain for me in the beginning but after a little bit practice you can get it 100% of the time. I also recommend skipping the invisible portal at 32% by going over it as the wave to make this part a little easier.
Then we have my personal favourite parts in a row. 34%-40% UFO might be one of the best UFO parts I’ve played. I know it’s not anything too special but I really like this part. But the wave at 40%-47% is even better. One of my favourite waves of all time, there is so much yet so little space and the structuring is perfect! I also love the decoration in this part it gives me magical vibes. The click pattern is so fun and it’s not free either.
Then the level starts to fall apart a little bit in my opinion. And I mean in terms of enjoyability, decoration, balancing and gameplay! 54% click is stupid and the orbs following it even more so. The parts following it are also quite difficult. One place where I certainly didn’t expect to fail several times was 62% ship. Going up from the slope thingy proved to be something I needed more practice on.
Then there’s the hardest section of the level in my opinion. 66%-69% and 71%-73%. The wave is very precise and requires lots of inputs and even spam to get through. And the pulsing of the ball shaped objects certainly doesn’t help indicating where the saws are located. Transitioning into the dual ship is also pretty terrible. I was very confident with the 70’s dual at first but after dying there once it was inevitable to fail there multiple times. Confidence is the key. There’s also the 77%-78% mini wave but luckily I only died there once and that was after I had already beaten this with 2 coins.
Up, mid, up, down, mid, mid, down, up, down, mid, up, mid, down, mid, up, down, up, mid, mid, up, down is something you can ask me in the middle of the night and I’ll probably never forget it weirdly enough. Even though it had been over a year and a half since I first beat this on my laptop I somehow remembered this without practising whatsoever.
In summary ABP is very enjoyable level that falls flat if played from 0%. Doing some runs might be fun but if you are actually trying to go for this heed my words when I say it can be quite a troublesome challenge. I’d still recommend giving it a try and if it feels right sure go for it. I think I had fun because I wouldn’t have beaten this a second time in half an hour if it wasn’t!
