A Clean Install of DeepIn Linux 20.2.2 Dell UEFI BIOS and Secure Boot
In this video I go through a Clean Install on DeepIn 20.2.1 on an OptiPlex 7040 using a UEFI BIOS without Secure Boot. Note that the DeepIn 20.2.2 ISO has been updated to to include a Secure Boot certificate, so use this ISO instead to make installation media and Enable Secure Boot before installation. Other changes are minor between DeepIn 20.2.2 and 20.2.1. I address the other UEFI BIOS settings required for the install such as the use of the AHCI SATA Operation. Any computer manufactured in 2012 or later will have a UEFI BIOS (computers manufactured before hand probably will be incompatible with DeepIn 20.2).
The DeepIn Desktop Environment is tailored for keyboard and mouse use for example in a traditional desktop. Although it looks polished enough for touchscreen it has some serious shortcomings when it comes to using a 2 in 1 convertible laptop device. In my XPS 13 9365 the touchscreen press doesn't work with most of the DeepIn 20.2 menus but will work with the input fields in a Chromium browser (this is likely due to a conflict with the way QT is handling touch events from this touchscreen, perhaps expecting a pen to be used instead). I try also an older Latitude 7350 tablet which works a bit better. That being said, the screen auto-rotation does not work and the onscreen touchscreen keyboard is awful. The DeepIn team should look to the way Gnome3 works with regards to touchscreen keyboard and auto-rotation. A couple tweaks to get the touchscreen interface to work could make this a very nice Linux distro.
