Matt Meyer, a former sixth and seventh grade math teacher, was elected as the Chief Executive of Delaware's largest county in 2016, defeating a three-term incumbent through a grassroots campaign. During the COVID-19 crisis in 2020, he led innovative efforts in New Castle County, including being the first state to offer free COVID-19 saliva tests, monitoring sewers to detect hotspots, and creating the largest full-service homeless shelter in Delaware's history.
Meyer's administration focused on honest, transparent governance, reducing government waste, and initiating projects like JobsNow, NCC innovates, and GreeNCC, which addressed job creation, small business support, and environmental sustainability. He introduced a high school course on local democracy and led community policing initiatives like Hero Help.
Meyer holds a diverse senior staff and is a Brown University and University of Michigan Law School graduate. His diverse career includes roles as a diplomat, economic advisor, entrepreneur, and attorney.
