A few extra rules: (thanks Rikri)
Rules for sightreading a track:
1: If the track doesn't visibly cross itself, assume no tiles are hidden.
2: On tiles where the center is obstructed (where a twirl/rabbit/snail would normally go), don't assume a twirl, rabbit, or snail.
3: If the track loops back on itself as to where it's unclear how many track pieces are present, assume the absolute minimum number of track pieces.
4: Assume normal rabbits are 2x speed, double rabbits are 4x speed, normal snails are 0.5x speed, and double snails are 0.25x speed (or slower).
5: If the track forms a closed loop with no exit, continue repeating the track as normally, obeying all twirls/rabbits/snails.
6: For all rules 1-5, any of them can be overridden if specified (either via objects such as decorations, track animations, or tutorials).

Rules for creating a track to be sightreadable:
1: If you create the track such that the rules for sightreading a track fail to accurately decipher it, make sure it's clear to the player exactly what must be done differently to properly decipher it.
2: If, after applying the rules for sightreading a track, it's unclear what path the planets will take, clarify the path to the player.
3: Ignore all shadows on the edges of track pieces when determining what must be clarified using rule 1/2 of creating a track.
4: Don't place midspins or turnarounds in positions where they're difficult to see or easy to confuse with one another.
