On the edge of Los Angeles, in a strip mall located in Rowland Heights, California, sat Arcade Infinity, an early-2000s hotspot for rhythm and fighting game players. Arcade Infinity was a meeting point for Southern California fighting game players, creating a breeding ground for the region’s top competitors including Combofiend, Ed Ma, Alex Valle, Mike Ross and more.

It wasn’t just a home for SoCal’s best fighting game players — from Marvel vs. Capcom 3 to King of Fighters and Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike. Some of the world’s top rhythm game players frequented the arcade as well. When Street Fighter IV dropped, owner Ken Tao’s experience importing arcade boards internationally set up Arcade Infinity as the first arcade in the entire United States to feature SFIV’s early arcade-only release, well before the game hit consoles.

We sat down with some of the players who were there — Jeremy “Vicious” Lopez, Andrew “Duralath” Alandy, Patrick “Pattheflip” Miller and Sherry “Sherryjenix” Nhan — to discuss this arcade’s massive impact (and, of course, the incredible food nearby).
