iiTzTimmy & Tiffae vs. Cuddle_Core & ApologyMan | ULTIMATE FGC vs. FPS "SHOWDOWN"
It's a debate as old as time — what kind of gaming breeds the strongest skills? Across all the myriad kinds of games, and gamers, in the world, there are so many finely honed talents, abilities and advantages forged in the fires of late-night grinds, head-to-head PvP competitions, boss rushes and raids. But who really comes out on top?
Is it the fighting game pros, with their deep understanding of spacing and ability to get inside their opponents heads in 1v1 situations? Is it the MOBA veterans, with their innate sense of timing and insight into how the game unfolds, even when the action is on the other side of the map. Or is it the FPS players, from battle royale buffs to tactical shooter devotees, who boast exceptional reaction times and aim. Each brings something uniquely powerful to the table.
Well, we put that question to the ultimate test... sort of. We paired up two top FPS streamers— iiTzTimmy, known for his marathon streams in Apex Legends and VALORANT, and Tiffae, a skilled player and experienced coach who levels up the game of countless VALORANT diehards, against two FGC stalwarts. ApologyMan, the FGC renaissance man who's competed at a high level in Dragon Ball FighterZ, Guilty Gear -Strive- (recently placing Top 8 at CEO), Smash, Marvel vs. Capcom and more and TEKKEN titan Cuddle_Core, fresh off a top 8 finish at Combo Breaker entered the ring to face off against their quick-trigger counterparts in three timeless games of skill (and, let's be honest, more than a little luck).
The competitions? A paper airplane competition (build your best plane and see who flies the furthest) to test their problem solving, ingenuity and aim. The Tumbling Towers, where they'd battle the forces of gravity to test their ability to read the state of a game and think one step ahead of their opponents. And the purest head-to-head competition of them all, where one's ability to read their opponent can overcome all else: rock, paper, scissors (or roshambo, if that's your flavor). Yes, you read them right — three incredibly serious, high-stakes, no-holds-barred battlefields where these veteran gamers could flex their talents.
And through it all, we brought Nicki Taylor and Mike LaBelle along for the ride to host the friendly competition. What unfolded might not have taught us much about what kind of gamer really reigns supreme, but it was a whole lot of fun.
