A Narrative-Driven Deckbuilder Roguelike | Union of Gnomes demo
2Hello everyone! Another demo for an upcoming game here. This is Union of Gnomes, a deckbuilder pseudo-roguelite with quite a focus on story (not sure if calling it narrative-driven was the right option, but there was a lot of dialogue and narration). Honestly, the start can be pretty tough, but interesting at the same time. Not a big fan of the food part while moving onward (probably a lot of people will hate that), but I could deal with it. Just starting a game I could see that there are a lot of possible synergies and I like the deck customization and ugprade system... when they were available, and I also was really digging that "mini-roguelite levels" design. However... First, that card of the critical hit felt just so bad and it was using a lot of food, that I felt way better getting rid of it (I think it is supposed to be a good one, but it was just didn't feel like one... Maybe the upgrade version was better?). Secondly, and the worst part, that other level final boss was just BS. What is this about healing 20 every 3 turns? And why did it look like it was only going to heal for 10? Was it a bug? Whatever it was, it was just annoying. Specially if you add blindness or whatever stats they had to make me miss... It just ruined the whole mood and I really didn't feel like keep playing because there could be more situations like that... Oh, yeah, and there was no deck customization in the middle of that level and they would keep adding cards to my deck that were against my build; they would have been probably useful if I would have started it with a poison build, but I didn't... I mean, how the hell was I supposed to know?
Anyways, I enjoyed the art and the music, and, honestly, besides the latest part, I was really enjoying the gameplay, so... Pretty cool game if they can fix or balance whatever happened there.
