A pawn is as strong as a rook? | Instructive Endgame VIDEO
Sa Kannan (1989) had an equal Rook and Pawn vs. Rook and Pawn endgame against former National Rapid Champion GM Neelotpal Das (2369) in Round 6 of Chessmine Rapid Rating Open. Kannan sacrificed his rook to stop his opponent's pawn from being promoted because he knew that his opponent will also be forced to do the same.
Knowing endgame theory always helps, especially when you are in time trouble.
