Pokémon GO took the world by storm when it launched for mobile devices blending augmented reality with real life in 2016!
It seemed like with the launch of this game by Niantic that World Peace might in fact be achievable and possible after all. Crowds of people moved from street corner to street corner, working together in unity regardless of what team they were on - Mystic, Instinct or Valor - to take down legendary and mythic monsters and add them to their beloved Pokédex!
Imagine all the people playing Pokémon GO in peace?!

It started with everyone on the go trying to catch them all. Update by update, Niantic implemented more gyms and raids, increasing player levels, and adding more fun interactive elements to the game, including PvP (player vs player) and with these growing changes, the game became even more multifaceted with a large, friendly player-base.

With player vs player entering the scene, Norell and I thought, "This could blossom into an actual legitimate Esport!" We weren't the only ones who felt this way. Writer with PokémonGoHub, and Esport enthusiast, Adam, also known as Avrip, also shared similar ideas of the direction in which the game was headed. Together we collaborated on this article together:

It seemed to be a self-fulfilling prophesy: Pokémon GO was taking shape as an Esport in the eyes of many! There are many big names known in the Pokémon GO community which have shaped the growth and development of the game as an Esport, including PvPoke (https://PvPoke.com), Silph Arena (https://silph.gg), and Pokémon GO Stadium (https://stadiumgaming.gg), along with many notable influencers on YouTube such as PoGoKieng, PokeAK, and many others. This documentary features several interviews with players and influencers alike on their thoughts of Pokémon GO as an Esport and other elements of the game.

We hosted a fun Esport meetup for PoGoKieng at our venue early on, and attended and documented some spectacular footage of the rise of Pokémon GO as an Esport, capturing a great deal of the Montebello PvP Mega Tournament that brought in over 300 trainers from around the USA, and even some people traveled from around the world to be with us at this very special tournament! These were monumental moments for the Pokémon GO community and inevitably will go down in history.

In January 2020, we put together a benefit music festival that would feature the world's very first ranked Pokémon GO PvP tournament for charity, as we raised awareness and some proceeds for two great causes: the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and My Friend's Place supporting homeless youth. PkmnMasterHolly, TrnrTips, Mystic7 and more helped promote the festival and even supported in person at The Band Famous venue in Los Angeles, with Holly as our official MC for the entire weekend! We had DJs: MoonChannel, Tee Time, and Gabriel Diggs; an array of live performances from: Korynn OC aka Mikara, Dakotah Faye, DRYX, Quaesar, Nur-D, and ourselves, The Band Famous; stand-up comedy by Braxton Herda (Long Shot, Scorpion, Arrested Development); and more live entertainment. One night was all-ages and featured the Pokémon GO ranked PvP tournament for charity, and the second night was 18+ for a well-rounded weekend that we will never forget! We live-streamed the entire festival through The Band Famous apps and on Twitch.tv, as we have live-streamed every artistic and musical performance we have ever played a part in since we made The Band Famous in July 2013.

As covid and other current events have forced changes onto all of us, and have made many aspects of daily life more difficult, we have recently seen the dismantling of Silph Arena, which made us sad, but we were relieved to see that heavyweight PvPoke isn't going anywhere and will remain a solid rock for the Pokémon GO community and shifting PvP scene.

We have been working on this documentary for some time, as we ourselves have shifted gears with the changes around us, having closed our independent venue in Los Angeles that we worked so hard to open - and we managed to produce and perform some incredible benefit events and festivals while we were there - to now living and producing off-grid on a mountain in remote Arizona, fully solar-powered by the sun. We also run a small animal rescue and sanctuary - providing care to many real-life "-mons" - and we are having nostalgia whilst going over these memories.

We look forward to sharing this full-length documentary with you later this year! It will be released and available as a PPV on our Patreon, which supports our music and our animal rescue and sanctuary at:
