Vanilla Beyond is an excellent vanilla “plus”-type mod for Medieval 2 that keeps the original vanilla feel and look of the game while adding a ton of units, buildings, factions, and events to make Medieval 2’s vanilla campaign feel completely refreshed. Add in the huge map that extends from the Americas to Karakorum, and you have a pretty epic campaign.
