A Smile in the Shadows | Roll for Initiative - Episode 16
19Our party, now calling themselves the Emissaries of Alexander after a huge reveal regarding Bell's history, finally manage to make it to the cave where the treasure map has led them. Inside, a pack of Dire Wolves, sleeping in a winding cave, though little did the party know that something far more beastly was slumbering below. After dealing with a few wolves, they made it to the bottom, a treasure chest waiting for them... as well as the Alpha Dire Werewolf and the rest of the pack. But now, using their newly acquired skills, the party made quick work of their foes and was able to claim the treasure, giving them all some much-needed funds for the travels ahead.
Upon reaching South Rochdale, they are met with the sights and sounds of an enormous festival, filled with games and rides! It was the annual Festival of Heroes, celebrating the hard work and dedication that adventurers, bounty hunters, knights, and others give to protecting the archipelago, uncovering lost items and history, and defeating dangerous monsters. Choosing to merely blend in as they were among dozens and dozens of fellow adventurers, they go out to participate in the festivities, relaxing and having fun for the first time on their adventure. Though the threat of Jaymas watching had made itself quite apparent from the outset, Kayli and the others chose to ignore it for the sake of wanting to have fun and relax for once.
Running the prize counter was none other than everyone's favorite Jester: Reginald! How he was roped into dealing magical items for prize tickets is anyone's guess, but prizes he did indeed have as there were magical items that were available just for participating and winning in games and events for the adventurers to try and win. Via a flyer given to Chase by Reginald himself, everyone starts to play and earn tickets to claim the prize (or prizes) of their desires!
After an intense pie-eating contest that left Evelyn and Ren bedridden for the rest of the afternoon and even more tickets in Chase's hands, the party begins to meet up once more as the sun sets. Some evening activities remain open, though most games have closed for the day and many adventurers have begun to leave, check in to the Inn, or stay out late and participate with the exclusive evening events hosted by the merchants.
As the crowd thins out and some new faces begin to appear in various corners of the town, our party gathers together to discuss what plans they had for the evening as well as what to do next.
