A talk for those who think that techniques don't work in historical combat
Since I've seen a number of objections to certain techniques or tactics in swordsmanship, based on the idea that under the stress of fighting to the death it all goes out the window, here is some clarification.
If you don't feel like watching the entire video, you can ask yourself this for a quick answer: If any technical finesse really was overridden by basic instinct in combat, why would the historical masters have bothered to dedicate so much time and effort to perfecting the techniques that they thought would keep them alive?
