A Too-Deep Look At Pokemon Uranium: Part 1 | MSCC
In August of 2016, Pokemon Uranium -- a surprisingly well-realized fan game made in RPG Maker -- exploded onto the scene in a finished version. Within a week, Nintendo employed the nuclear option. Of course, good luck purging something like that from the internet. Uranium is, as an amateur attempt goes, pretty interesting, but it’s full of a bunch of little flaws. Today I’m putting on my HAZMAT suit and doing a deep dive on all of these, so we can get an idea of what Uranium does right, and what it does wrong. Uh, breeder reactor. I dunno, I ran out of puns an hour ago.
In part one of this two-part series, I’ll be looking at Uranium’s graphics, sound and basic plot. Part two will take a deeper look at writing, mechanics, and balance.
