A Wind in the Door is a children’s fantasy novel published by Madeleine L’Engle in 1973. The sequel to A Wrinkle in Time, it is the second of five works in her series called Time Quintet. It follows Meg Murry, the protagonist of the first novel, as she seeks to heal a strange disease contracted by her genius six-year-old brother, Charles Wallace. Together with their friend Calvin O’Keefe, they are recruited by an angel-like extraterrestrial to depart their suburban town on a cosmic voyage to fight an evil force, learning that it is tied to Charles Wallace’s disease. The novel extends key themes and plotlines from its prequel including the importance of family, the urgency of scientific inquiry, and the importance of human values of warmth, kindness, and spirituality in combating the constant threat of entropy and existential death.
