This engine start procedure is for a 172N carburated engine. Fuel injected start is clarified in the comments by EnDSchultz:

"Priming the fuel injected model goes something like this:

Aux Pump: ON
Mixture: RICH
Check for indication on fuel flow gauge, count 1-5 seconds depending on temps.
Mixture: CUTOFF
Aux Pump: OFF
Mags: START
Mixture: RICH when engine fires.

On paper it looks a bit more convoluted than the carb procedure for sure, but the key bit is that you crank the engine with the mixture cutoff, then advance it when the engine starts. It's very easy to flood the fuel injected 172, and A2A added this fact to their simulation in the 2.0 update a few months back. I'm convinced you flooded the hell out of it by leaving the mixture rich (AND using the aux pump) while cranking and that's why you had so much trouble starting."
