Torchlight is an isometric action RPG in the vein of Diablo 2. The town of Torchlight sits on top of an Ember Mine that has been invaded by monsters, and there appears to be a more sinister plot involved as well.
Leveling occurs through gaining experience by killing monsters and completing quests. As you level you gain points to increase your stats. When you level you also gain a point that lets you improve a spell or inate ability. Killing named monsters also increases your fame. When your fame levels, you get a skill point, but no attribute points.
