MYTH:
These abortion bans don’t impact me or people I know
Dr. Janet Lefkowitz (Chief Medical Officer, Planned Parenthood Southeast): One in three women are going to have an abortion in their lifetime. In Georgia and Alabama alone, we have been overwhelmed with the amount of phone calls by people who are just scared that they will be either their appointments aren't going to be kept or that they won't have access to abortion care. And there have been hotlines that have had to be started to care to be able to handle the volume of calls that have come in.
MYTH:
Abortion is now illegal in states passing anti-abortion bills
Dr. Janet Lefkowitz (Chief Medical Officer, Planned Parenthood Southeast): Abortion is very much still legal in Alabama. Very much still legal in Georgia. And we will fight to keep it this way.
MYTH:
If you don’t like the ban, you can leave the state
Dr. Janet Lefkowitz (Chief Medical Officer, Planned Parenthood Southeast): This is not just Alabama women who are going to suffer. This is not just Georgia women who are going to suffer. This is will affect millions of people. One in four women live in states that are at risk for having abortion outlawed. That's twenty five million people.
20 states are at 'high risk' to ban abortion if Roe V. Wade is overturned.
MYTH:
Lawmakers are representing Americans on this issue
Dr. Janet Lefkowitz (Chief Medical Officer, Planned Parenthood Southeast): The idea that 73 percent of Americans have said that they support access to abortion care. Means that our politicians aren't listening and they are not regarding what is best for people's health.
