ABZU - Their Waters Were Mingled Together - As Noted
650Episode 7 of "As Noted," the grand finale of ABZU!
The orchestral element of this was recorded at Oceanway Studios in Nashville (engineered by Nick Spezia and conducted by me); and the harp ensemble + choir at Air Studios in London (engineered by Jake Jackson and conducted by me / Ben Parry respectively). Oboe solos by Kristin Naigus.
This piece is interactive in-game based on the player progression through the final 'level' and some notes about how that was done and what differences the OST has can be found in the video!
The full text the choir is singing, drawn from the original Akkadian of the Enūma Eliš:
1. When in the height heaven was not named,
2. And the earth beneath did not yet bear a name,
3. And the primeval Abzu, who begat them,
4. And chaos, Tiamat, the mother of them both,—
5. Their waters were mingled together,
6. And no field was formed, no marsh was to be seen;
7. When of the gods none had been called into being,
8. And none bore a name, and no destinies [were ordained];
9. Then were created the gods in the midst of [heaven],

This text was an inspiration for the game overall, and is famously the oldest documented creation myth. The text is hinted at, or sung in fragments, throughout the game and given its most complete rendition here. The true, full setting of the text comes after this, in the end credits called "Then were created the gods in the midst of heaven"
