This is the theme of the corrupted dragon godess, the final boss theme
She isn't an evil person at all, in fact, she has protected the Celestial Realm and Gensokyo for millenia, and is considered one of the most gentle and kindhearted residents of the Celestial Realm, even by Tenshi, who used to think she was boring
But her powers are influenced by the feelings of those around her, and because of instability in the Hakurei Barrier, the emotions of people from the Outside World have driven her to madness with worry and anxiety
She has taken it upon herself to take control of the Celestial Realm and sever its connection from Gensokyo and the Outside World by ending Gensokyo, that way, she does not have to suffer from her own overwhelming empathy anymore
In a way, she is like a particle accelerator for emotions, they are all clashing inside of her to create terrifying results, and those manifest in her power
We are VERY lucky that she has decided to adhere to the spell card rules for this battle
I think this title sounds incredibly cool by the way
This song is meant to basically be a culmination of all the feelings from the entire album, it is the pinnacle, it should feel like the song itself is ascending
I wanted to use more complicated harmonies and progressive time signatures in this song, to represent the corruption of her divine presence, so this song uses a combination of major and minor chords in some new experimental ways for me
I'm very happy with the way i utilised the more complex major chiords especially, the feeling of corrupted happiness is really strong here, and i'm super happy about that
I also included some chords that could be interpreted as "dissonant", but this is all intentional, i wanted to prioritise the feeling of the song fitting the character more than adhering to traditional music theory, because i wanted the song's personality to shine above all else, and i think i have succeeded in that
There are also leitmotifs from the final stage theme in here too, because of course, that's tradition, it's very inspired by Junko's theme in that way, and it's just really fun to do!
This is my longest Touhou style final boss theme released to the public yet, i really wanted it to feel incredible and overwhelming, but not overhwelming as pure chaos, after all, this is a corrupted Celestial, not a Lunarian, so in a way, it is controlled chaos, for it is still a dragon godess in the Celestial Realm, no matter how corrupted by the emotions of the outside world, the beauty of the song should still outshine the chaos, and what chaos there is, should be intentional, and not random
I believe i have been succesful in that, every note was placed deliberately to form a cohesive story through music
I wanted the song to feel not just epic, but a little sad too, because we are not the only ones being overwhelmed, the dragon godess is also extremely overwhelmed, so in a way, this song also represents the kind of feeling of being overwhelmed while still being able to express beauty
Ah, i haven't even talked much about the instruments yet
There is so much to talk about with this song
I don't think i could describe all my feelings while making this song
In a way, i'm overwhelmed too
So, i will let the music do the talking for me, i hope you'll be able to feel it!
Story:
Reimu, Marisa, and Tenshi confront the corrupted dragon godess
She seems to be in pain, she is deeply stuck inside of her own overwhelming empathy for every being, both in Gensokyo, the Celestial Realm, and the Outside World
The stronger everyone's emotions, the stronger her powers become
They are lucky that she has decided to adhere to the spellcard rules
If she wins, Gensokyo will end, and the Celestial Realm will be severed off forever from everyone
...So it's a good thing she doesn't win!
In fact, they kick her ass, and Tenshi even laughs about it
But Reimu tries to reassure the dragon godess that everything is going to be okay (she invites her over to drink sake at the shrine)
Later at the shrine...
Reimu, Marisa, Tenshi, and the dragon godess are getting shitfaced drunk together (like usual) and are now friends
The dragon godess, in a drunken ramble, tries to say that perhaps feeling empathy towards everyone is not as much as a curse, even if it is difficult, there are many people out there who deserve to be heard, even if empathy for them can get tiresome at times, to let frustration and hatred win is not going to improve your own life or theirs
