Ace Combat 7: Zonal Sky - Resurrection, Zone Of The Endless
The Arsenal Bird is down, and all Erusean government forces at the space elevator have surrendered. But the last of Mihaly's data still got uploaded to two drones before it was pulled. And now Scarface One must relive his greatest challenge, but the gap is far wider. He remembers the first generation ADF-01 Falken. Back then, his XFA-27 which was built specifically to take it on along with the Usean rebels was barely able to keep up with it. Even with engine and avionics upgrades, a head-on conflict of an XFA-27 with a second generation Falken would still be tough. And now the Z.O.E. is on two aircraft that are the superior successors to the Falken. The ADF-11F, according to specs, is a seventh-generation advanced dominance fighter. Capable of being manned or unmanned with an AI and the ability to control other drones, these two Ravens of Odin circle the space elevator as though it were Yggdrasil itself.
The Oseans and Eruseans were extremely worried as it was clear the drones were waiting for the space elevator to power up again and resume transmissions. Once that happens, they can send their data, and drone manufacturing plants across the continent will crank out clones of Hugin and Munin together with Mihaly's data and whatever battle data the two gain and observe of each other. After all, the drones remember not only their performance, but also watch each others' too.
As expected the battle is intense. Scarface One was thankful the first generation Falken had never used its laser against him all those years ago. But this time he had no such luxury as the ADF-11F was armed with both Pulse Laser and Tactical Laser Systems. Heavily armoured and outrageously fast as is. An amateur piloting it would be unstoppable. But with Mihaly's skills at the helm, they were godlike. And to make matters worse eventually the drones released smaller drones of their own. Armed with lasers too and the lasers went after everything, planes and even missiles shot at them! Precision, speed and saturation. Scarface One had no choice but to use anything and everything.
As the last drone went down Phoenix breathed a sigh of relief, but this was a seventh-generation aircraft. Phoenix had never heard of a seventh-generation fighter and was wondering what the "modular design" was all about in the description...and now he saw it. One of the drones discarded its main body. The smaller unit was identical to the white unknown fighter he shot down in Bulgurdarest. Except this one was even faster and armed with a pulse laser. Phoenix and all the others noticed this unit was moving very differently from back when it had its main body. It was trying to gain experience! Its self-improvement programming had determined Mihaly's data is insufficient and was now attempting to augment Phoenix' flying style. Time was running out even faster. If the battle took any longer, the drone may soon outfly Phoenix with all of his and Mihaly's styles combined.
As Phoenix took down the cockpit unit, everyone started celebrating. "It's too early!! If that drone could eject its cockpit, then what of the other one??" Phoenix looked around. He knew the last drone must have been watching the other one fight him. As machines they could share data and compare between them. The first drones personal observations, the second drone's spectating, and all the radar information of the two. Long Caster got the warning from the Erusean princess, and spotted the drone. It had a head start! Phoenix recklessly dived into the tunnel it went into. The Space Elevator was fully operational now. No time, no time at all! Count came in with him, but they couldn't do anything about that. The drone controlled the doors in the tunnels. At the base of the elevator, the drone began uploading the data. Phoenix had to destroy all the Repeaters besides the drone. Not even one of them should be allowed to transmit. And with just seconds to spare, they are all destroyed. The nightmare was finally over.
Phoenix flew out of the space elevator. He flew high, he knew he heard a certain transmission from far away. And he heard it again. A person named Kei Nagase had returned. Scarface One knew her...she was with the Sand Island Squadron, rumoured to have been shot down as a traitor, and the other rumours that she was never shot down, but was secretly one of the Razgriz! Phoenix had to smile. Just as he managed to protect something, another protector witnessed his actions.
Scarface One Phoenix was a hero twice-born. He was no mere mercenary. Things would change. Things have changed. The entire continent needs all the help they could get and he could no longer remain anonymous. He had his home too somewhere. Remnants of Free Erusea were still active. But there was no doubt they would eventually be brought down. Perhaps by him. Perhaps by Mobius One again. Or maybe another Demon of Razgriz will arrive. Or maybe no hero. Just the people themselves. The sky really is blue.
