This week, we are taking a look at a handful of some of the most iconic roles in popular culture, and how things could have been different, if a few actors who were offered the roles, had taken them. How would this have shaped the movies? How would this have shaped the careers of the actors involved? How would this have affected the entire direction of popular culture as we know it?
The world would look quite a bit different if some of these iconic movies roles were played by other people. For instance, if Al Pacino was cast in the role of Han Solo, Scarface might not have happened, since it was in production around the same time as Return of the Jedi. An even bigger consequence would have been that, more than likely, Harrison Ford might not have had much of a career. Sure, he had a few roles before Star Wars (such as his small part in George Lucas’ American Graffiti) but he wouldn’t have the break out role that made him a star. This would ripple out further, affecting the Indiana Jones franchise. Without Ford front and center for the part, what would have happened? Might production have been delayed so that the original choice for that role, Tom Selleck, could work it into his schedule?
