Adan's Venture: Chronicles is an episodic Adventure/Puzzle RPG that was released in 2014. It was Developed by Vertigo Digital Entertainment, and Published by Soedesco. This is a version that combines the original three part chapter series of Adam Venture that were earlier released in 2009, 2011, and 2012.

STORY: 14/20
Adam Venture is an explorer and adventurer. Set in the 1920’s, you set out on a journey to find lost antient artefacts, and solve ancient mysteries. Accompanying Adam is his partner Evelyn, with her at your side Adam will solve ingenious puzzles and take on challenges to outsmart the evil Clairvoix Corporation who are trying to tip the balance of good and evil in their favour.

GRAPHICS: 18/20
Being this game was made over a decade ago it's aged pretty well considering. This Chronicles version did receive a graphical update but nothing to the standard of what Origins is at, but it still looks great. I love the PS2 quality of the models for Adam and the rest of the cast, and also the surroundings/look of the areas, they all look really great. Puzzles are nicely designed, with use of some very nice hand drawn art. The cutscenes are well animated and graphically suit the game very well.

SOUND: 14/20
The game's OST ain't that great, the songs are okay but they are nothing compared to more modern day adventure games. Each track sets a nice tone for the area(s) they are used in. Sound effects are okay, like rushing waterfalls, rumbling caves, winds, switches, puzzles being solved and so on, there's more SFX than music tracks. The game is voice acted too which helps bring the characters to life but there's certainly points in the game that has you eye-rolling when certain people talk.

GAMEPLAY: 14/20
Let's get the bad out of the way with first. The game has it's buggy moments, especially being able to go out of bounds within area maps at times, this is evident in the gameplay vid above as i'm climbing up a ladder and just carry on and climb out of bounds.. lol. There's often times too where your character will hit invisible walls because you can't judge the distance between you and it. Lastly. puzzles.. some puzzles have NO direction or instruction in what to do, so without a guide you'll find yourself stuck pretty early on. When climbing and jumping, even crouching through small holes you can have a few problems getting inline to press the button to do what you want.

So, the good.. the game plays very much like you're standard adventure exploration platformer game, in fact.. it reminds me a lot of Tomb Raider in that sense. The game has three chapters for you to explore (this video being Chapter 1) and each are around an hour or so long, with each chapter seeing you in different location of the world. You explore locations by walking/running, you solve puzzles that are intricately placed around areas, solving many of them are the only way to move forward with the story. You can crouch to get through small places, climb and leap walls, jump gaps, and even climb ladders.

SYSTEMS: 15/20
The game has a few systems present, different puzzle systems, run, crouch, jump, and even climbing systems, an auto save spot system. There's no menu system but items you gather are stored somewhere. The game is pretty small so the need for many systems is not needed and I was glad that there wasn't any systems in place that didn't really need to be there. I would have preferred if they had a save system that you could do yourself rather than an auto-save function, because of this only 1 game can be played and saved, so if someone else wants to play they will have to save over your progress, which sucks.

OVER ALL: 75/100
Despite it's few flaws I enjoyed this game, the puzzles are challenging if you don't use a guide. If you enjoy the early Tomb Raider games then I think you'd enjoy this one. DO I recommend this one now? Yes, it's certainly worth a playthrough.
