Don’t you just hate those moments when something becomes popular to the point where because of some misinterpretation of the media in question or any of its characters that it gains attention for all the wrong reasons and that misinterpretation leads to snowballing and scapegoating which will eventually overtime vilify an innocent individual due to making something in regards to that media?

Well that’s kind of that worriment of what’s going on with the whole “Huggy Wuggy” craze that has gotten many parents worried about their children’s exposure to Huggy Wuggy that they’ve gotten the police involved.

So how did we get to this?

Before we get into what’s gotten parents worried and why they are getting the police involved, here’s a brief description of the character…

Huggy Wuggy is a giant blue monster with very long limbs and rows of sharp teeth who is one of the main antagonists of the indie survival horror game, “Poppy Playtime”, created by MOB Games. In the game, you play as a former employee of an abandoned toy factory and the goal is to survive a creepy possessed doll named “Poppy” and the aforementioned giant blue monster known as “Huggy Wuggy” among other enemies.

So what’s gotten parents so riled up about this character that they’d get law enforcement involved?

Supposedly, their children being overexposed to videos and other media associated with “Poppy Playtime” and listening to songs with morbid lyrics involving Huggy to the point of whispering some of those creepy lyrics while in school and recreating some scenes from the game on the playground at said schools (if they had any).

Parents assume that because of a fan made song created by the TryHardNinja entitled “Free Hugs” that Huggy sings morbid songs within the game itself. Here’s the thing: The song in question was “fan made” as in it does not exist in the game canonically. To summarize, Huggy Wuggy does not sing any songs within the game and if he does later on down the line, we have yet to hear it.

Parents, if you didn’t want your children getting exposed to morbid elements in a horror game or any other media in the first place, then it is your job and your job alone as the parent to keep an eye on what your child is watching or being exposed to. Stop expecting YouTube, celebrities, and influencers to watch over them for you. Our job is to entertain people and that’s it.

That is all.
