Adept: Space Waste II Longplay (Commodore 64 Game) -

Adept: Space Waste II is a Commodore 64 game developed by Alan Bond, released in 1987 as a follow-up to the 1985 game, Space Waste. This sequel expands on the original by introducing a wider variety of enemies, adding depth to its gameplay.

Much like classic space shooters such as Space Invaders and Galaxian, This title offers a twist with each wave presenting different enemy types, enhancing the game's variety and challenge. For instance, one wave might pit you against classic space invaders, while another challenges you with dodging and shooting asteroids.

The game features a total of 10 waves; in the first nine, you must destroy 10 enemies to progress. The final wave initially sets a daunting target of destroying 999 asteroids, but this number drops to just 15 once you hit the core of the mothership, which is reminiscent of a Galaxian-style boss fight. Upon completing all waves, the game loops back to the first, with increased difficulty.

Despite its relatively simple mechanics, modest challenge level, and occasionally frustrating stiff controls, I appreciate the game's variety. Moreover, considering it's a public domain title, Adept: Space Waste II is a praiseworthy effort by its creator, showcasing innovative elements that keep it engaging.
